    The voyage ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama’ by the Indian Government aims to achieve the National policy to empower women to attain their full potential. All-Women Indian Navy crew’s circumnavigation around the world in 254 days all alone, in a sailboat called INSV Tarini. It is the second sailboat of the Indian Navy. It was indigenously built to showcase ‘Make in India’. It uses environment-friendly non-conventional renewable energy resources like wind. It collected and updated meteorological, ocean, wave data and data for monitoring marine pollution. For this voyage, six women were selected and they were mentored by Dilip Donde. They underwent their basic sail training courses in Mumbai at INWTC and various schools in the southern naval base in Kochi.. The theoretical and practical training helped them to sail, to repair things and to handle emergencies. They even sailed in INSV Mhadei to Mauritius and also to Cape Town. They were trained almost for 3 years. Out of the thirty women, who had applied, six were shortlisted based on the little survival skills they showcased. With all training and struggle, the crew started their voyage from Goa on 10th September 2017 and went around the globe and reached Goa on 21st May 2018 after 254 days.

Moral: Women are the real architects of society. 


    In the poem “I am every woman”, the poetess portrays today’s woman as powerful. Today’s woman is brave, strong and empowered. She is beauty innate. She is the symbol of power and strength. She is ready to face any challenge, risking even her life. Every woman is true in expressing her love. She is never fake. She finds happiness even in hard times. She is very optimistic in her approach. She cares for her near ones. She gives more importance to her family than to herself. She is strong in her faith and firm in her beliefs. She says persistence is the key to success. She has pride and self-respect. She tackles and deals with the mischievous people who interfere in her life. She is never a quitter. She is ferocious like a lioness. Today’s woman overcomes everything which could destroy her. The poetess requests the reader to love and respect today’s woman.

Moral: Women can do wonders.

    Mulan was a young, brave Chinese girl. China was in the middle of a great war. The Emperor ordered that one man from each family must join the army. Mulan’s father was very old and her brother was too young. Though her father opposed, Mulan cut her hair, wore her father’s robe, disguised herself as a man, took her sword, climbed on a family horse and went to join Emperor’s army. In the army, Mulan proved to be a brave soldier. After few years, she became the Army General, the top job. Shortly after that, many soldiers and Mulan was affected by a bad fever. The doctor examined and found out that the general was a woman. News spread and many soldiers refused to work and wanted to punish her. At that time, they were announced about the surprise attack of their enemies. Even though Mulan was sick, she stood tall and commanded the soldiers to hide and attack. They followed and the battle was won. After that no one cared that Mulan was a woman and won many battles. The war ended and China was saved. Admiring Mulan’s valour and bravery, the Emperor ignored the rule about being a woman and offered her to stay in the palace as a royal adviser. But Mulan refused humbly and expressed her wish to return to her family. The Emperor sent Mulan to her village with six fine horses and six fine swords. Everyone was proud that the person who had saved China was their own Mulan. Thus, Mulan proved her patriotism towards her country and her love for her family.

Moral: Bravery is not a quality of the body. It is of the soul.
